The provision of 110 new student rooms on the campus of the Arts Institute is an important marketing asset, helping the institute attract new first year students, many of whom are from overseas or leaving home for the first time – or both.
A ‘benchmarking’ study of many built examples established what would deliver good value for the client, and helped identify management or design mistakes made by others. The study helped inform operational design decisions to ensure the use and maintenance of the buildings is successful. Each student room has a sleeping and study space, shower/wc room, storage and a large openable window with clear views to landscaped space. Common kitchen areas and laundry rooms are spacious, corridors are wide and well-lit.
