Blackwall Reach Regeneration Project

location: Tower Hamlets, London

year: 2005-2010

client: London Borough of Tower Hamlets & HCA

A master plan designed to guide the replacement and renewal of Robin Hood Gardens designed by Alison and Peter Smithson. The new project designed by Stephen Cherry and Richard Horden will provide 1700 new homes on the site of aprox 7 hectares.

Apartments and houses will look onto a generously landscaped Central Park very similar in scale and landscape as Berkeley Square with London plane trees set in a lawned garden for play, sculptures and relaxation.

The buildings are arranged around the perimeter of the site, like a necklace, to screen the park and residences from traffic sound from the Blackwall Tunnel and surrounding streets and motorways. The Docklands Light Railway Station and bus terminus will provide the principle entry points with adjacent retail and social centre.

The design, like the Kingsgate project for the residences on the Kings Road will incorporate state of the art clean energy and solar cells integrated into the roof and facade architecture.
