Steve Griffin is a Director at HCL Architects, with extensive experience delivering complex architectural projects across a diverse range of sectors, including mixed-use, high-end residential, education, art galleries, hospitality, commercial developments, sports stadia and high-rise buildings.

His experience spans projects from early design stages through to completion, working across a range of procurement routes, forms of contract and construction methods. Steve combines a strong understanding of technical design and construction with project and team management, enabling design quality to be maintained throughout the delivery process.

Steve has extensive experience working within BIM environments on large and complex projects and has developed a detailed understanding of the Building Safety Act and Higher-Risk Building requirements. At HCL, he has taken the HYLO tower through to completion while overseeing the delivery of a number of other schemes.

Previous Experience

Prior to joining HCL Architects, Steve was Technical Director at Darling Associates, where he worked on major residential and mixed-use developments including J4 J5 at Canary Wharf and EdCity in White City. His role included architectural and technical delivery, client and stakeholder liaison, consultant coordination, team management, resource planning and project workflows.

Previously, Steve spent fourteen years at Michael Drain Architects, progressing to Associate. His work included the Atrium Hotel at Heathrow, high-end residential projects, Victoria Miro galleries, education projects and specialist aviation facilities. His experience included leading projects through design and construction, coordinating consultant teams and maintaining close involvement on site.

Earlier in his career, Steve worked as a Project Architect at Michael Aukett Architects, primarily on commercial, residential and mixed-use developments.

Early Work

His early career established a broad technical and delivery background across commercial, residential and mixed-use architecture, which subsequently developed into senior project, technical and practice management roles.
