Ulrike Fuchs-Lee is a Director at HCL Architects, leading Project Management within the practice. With over 20 years of international experience in architecture and project delivery, Ulrike has led complex commercial, residential, hospitality, research and institutional developments across the UK and Germany. Her work combines strong architectural and design awareness with strategic project management, multidisciplinary consultant coordination, she has a clear understanding of client, programme, cost and delivery requirements, including client-side representation for project delivery.

Ulrike has worked with major private, institutional and corporate clients including BMW, CA Immo, Union Investment, Airbus Group and the Technical University of Munich, delivering high-rise commercial developments, hotels, research buildings and technically complex projects from initial design through procurement and construction.

Her approach begins with understanding the client’s objectives and establishing a clear project strategy. Design, programme, cost and technical requirements are considered together, with risks identified early and multidisciplinary teams coordinated to maintain quality and keep projects moving effectively towards delivery.

Ulrike believes that successful projects depend on clarity, communication and collaboration. Her experience across architecture, project management and lead consultant roles enables her to bridge the relationship between client, design team, consultants and contractors, translating complex issues into clear decisions while maintaining architectural quality and commercial objectives.

Previous Experience

From 2011 until June 2026 Ulrike worked at allmannwappner architects in Munich, progressing from Project Architect and Project Leader to Associate, Senior Project Manager and Lead Consultant Manager. allmannwappner’s strong design culture and architectural focus had a significant influence on Ulrike’s development as an architect and project leader, strengthening her design judgement and her belief that high quality design must remain central throughout the project and delivery process. She led major projects through design, detailed planning, procurement and construction and was responsible for client communication, multidisciplinary consultant coordination, programme strategy, contract , change and claim management and architectural quality.

In 2019 Ulrike reorganised and re-established allmannwappner’s “General Planning” Department, developing its structure, processes and coordination standards. She established workflows for multidisciplinary consultant teams and strengthened the practice’s role as Lead Consultant, combining architectural leadership with integrated project and consultant management.

Earlier in her career Ulrike worked at Horden Cherry Lee Architects in London on projects including Arundel Great Court, One Park Place at Canary Wharf, Chelsea Barracks, Blackwall Reach and 30 Crown Place. Her work also included the refurbishment of Poole Waterfront Museum, the Grade II listed 40 Bruton Place and St John Smith Square, as well as the Micro Compact Home and its exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and MoMA in New York.

Early Work

Ulrike studied architecture at Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus and the Technical University of Munich, graduating in 2005. Her early professional career developed between London and Munich and included work with Horden Cherry Lee Architects, Munich-based interior and corporate architecture practice einszu33 and Munich Airport’s Building Department.

Between 2008 and 2020 Ulrike also ran her own architectural practice, Architekturfuchs, working on residential, leisure and specialist commissions including a sailing-school extension, residential development in Switzerland and the complete interior design and fit-out of a small carbon-fibre motor yacht.

Teaching

Ulrike has a strong interest in design, emerging technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration. From 2008 to 2014 she taught and researched at the Technical University of Munich, initially at the Institute for Architecture and Product Design with Professor Richard Horden and subsequently at the Institute for Emerging Technologies.

She worked with international architects and academics who taught at the Institute for Emerging Technologies as guest Professors at the Technical University of Munich including Jacob van Rijs of MVRDV, Mario Cucinella, Michelle Addington, Christian Derix and Charles Walker of ZAH (former Zaha Hadid Architects), and led international workshops and academic collaborations with Tsinghua University in Beijing and Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial in Quito.
